Kate has met Darren Criss (Glee)

Today,  Kate tells us how she met Darren Criss

"Hi,

I afraid it's not a very exciting story.  The photo was taken at LeakyCon 2012, the Harry Potter fan convention in Chicago earlier this month. Darren was there with StarKid as a guest of the convention, as was I.

The photo was taken in the VIP area at the charity ball that capped the con."

Thanks for that story Kate. For more you can see Kate's blog

Mark has met Darren Criss

Today Mark tells us how he met Darren Criss, the actor form Glee.

"Hello,

It was Market Days weekend in Chicago and our neighborhood is the sight of the festivities. In preparation for the events, I saw that Darren Criss was performing on a local poster. What a fantastic synchronicity! I'm a huge fan of Glee, Darren being my favorite character, and I'm also Filipino so that's a double draw to see him. As the weekend drew closer, my schedule started to fill up and the worst possible outcome of all this hectic scheduling left no room to actually watch Darren perform. My partner and I were stuck in the suburbs for an event the very same day that Darren was set to light up the festival in our neighborhood. Disappointed, I resigned myself to just hoping that someone would record the performance and post it online.

My partner and were returning to the city while the festivities for the day were concluding. Just to give you a background on our neighborhood- it's the party area of Chicago. Wrigley Field, Boystown, and the Lakefront all converge on this small neighborhood and with Market Days happening, finding street parking would be a nightmare. So it was with trepidation that my partner and I scouted for a free parking space upon our return to the city.

Driving round and round a quarter mile area for thirty minutes gave us nothing to work with. Finally, we saw what looked to be someone loading up their car. I pulled up next to them slowly and asked if they were leaving. "Sure, just give us a minute" said one of the guys. Apparently, it wasn't just one, but a few early twenty-somethings that were helping load what looked to be some sort of equipment into the back of a small car. "Great! We'll just wait while you guys load up. No rush." I said. We reversed the car and waited.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a nice looking guy rush out of the house where the rest of the guys were bringing equipment to and from. It looked like Darren Criss. Yes, possibly Darren Criss! Do I even consider the possibility? But what on earth would Darren Criss be doing staying in someone's house in our neighborhood? Not wanting to miss even the slight chance of fortune smiling on us, I turned to my partner and said, "Did you see that guy? I swear he looks like Darren Criss."

"No way! What would he be doing here? Didn't he finish up his performance earlier today already?" asked my partner. "Well, get your camera out just in case." I replied. So he did and as the suspicious guy came back to the car from the house, I yelled out with hope, "DARREN!!!" He whipped his head back, approaching our car, and suspiciously asked, "Did you guys follow me here?"

IT. WAS. DARREN. CRISS. Seriously...WHAT??!!! In shocked tones, I stuttered, "Na...no... absolutely not. We were actually just looking for a parking space and your friend's car or your car or who ever's car looked like it was leaving." He cocked his head as if evaluating whether I was one of his many rabid fans or simply someone who was actually looking for parking. And surprisingly, he shrugged and said, "okay, cool."

Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I quickly asked, "would you mind if I got a picture with you?" "Sure" he quizzically said. I literally jumped out of the car and stood next to him complimenting him on such a great turn in his career, that I was also Filipino, and wished him the best of luck in the future. "Smile!" said my partner as he took the pic. FLASH!

Darren then said, "well, I'm kinda late for the airport, so I gotta go. See you!" By that point, my head was exploding and I replied, "for sure!" With that, he turned around, jumped in the car where his friends, were waiting and pulled out of the parking spot. As I got back into my car, I drove into the parking spot and literally skipped and jumped my way home, gushing.

The irony of the situation is that I didn't even think I would get to watch him online, but as luck would have it, I actually got to meet him in person! What are the chances? Of course, the next time I went to drive my car, I had a street cleaning ticket. "Who cares?" I thought to myself. "I met Darren Criss and if that meant a a $60 fine, then so be it!"

Thanks you s much for that great story. (And I agree that's a fair price ;) )

Maartje has met Darren Criss (Glee) and the Starkid Space actors

Today Maartje tells us about her meeting with the Starkid Space Actors, Darren Criss, Dylan Saunders, Meredith Stepien, Brian Holden, Lauren Lopez and Joe Walker.

"So, that was lucky. I went to the US (I'm from the Netherlands) in November 2011 and met Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Bartha (and Justin Long was there, too) in New York. I really didn’t think that I could get any luckier than getting two of my paintings signed on this trip. But apparently, I can.

I remember looking into Starkid Space Tour dates before I went there and then thinking it would be sold out. Funnily enough I got tickets on Thanksgiving Day, for the next day’s evening show in Boston at the House of Blues.

So I went to the show, which was awesome even though I might have lost my hearing because of all the screaming fangirls. I get it, but it was really hard for me to hear what they were saying on stage sometimes. And my poor eardrums. :P It was like being at a Beatles concert or something.

After the show there was a big security thing going on near the tour bus where the Starkids were supposed to come outside. I guess it was all kinds of crazy partly because Darren was there. Policemen were trying to keep people off the street away from the bus (there were cars driving through so I guess they were right in doing that). There were fences near the bus too. Eventually, they closed the gates to the back door and the somewhat moody policemen sort of told everyone to go home. They weren’t coming out there. I had my art book out on my lap because I’d been talking to some of the fans and street team members there, but everyone sort of just left because there was no chance of seeing them.

I hung around next door at the outside of a club for a while, getting eyed by policemen but because I just hung back they didn’t mind me being there and they couldn’t really kick me out because I wasn’t in the House of Blues parameter. Most people left, and eventually so did the police, and my friend Mary and I edged back to the tour bus where we saw the Tourbus driver Don who’d sung a song on stage. We talked to him and showed him my art. He said be right back to us and then later called us in and said: "you’re my cousins", as a joke and let us back into the venue. Apparently the police didn’t want any of the Starkids to go outside and sign anything.

That’s when Dylan walked up to us. He was the sweetest. I have to say, all of the Starkids are fantastic. So humble and generous. We talked for a bit and he said the others were all showering so we waited in the lobby for a bit and then Dylan came back, being intensely cute: “Come on back, there’s someone you should meet.”

Anyway, went backstage, and Darren was there, first, so he came up and hugged me, aww. I asked him to sign my art and he said he’d seen it (it’s impossible not to as I’ve spammed it everywhere) and he signed my two paintings of him.

Meredith came over too and boy, she’s lovely. I kind of wish I’d had a chance to draw all of them! Soonnnn. Brian came out to see what the fuss was about and they all seemed genuinely impressed. That’s the thing that gets to me most. Everyone I admire is so impressed with me.

I think Darren texted Joey at that point because I’d done a painting of him, too, and I think maybe Dylan went to get him because not much later he literally came running. He was so exuberant and excited. And in awe. It was like being in Wonderland for me because you don’t expect people who are clearly so talented to be impressed with what you’ve done. I got hugged and kissed on the cheek quite a lot by Joey and he wrote the sweetest thing in my art book. Then luckily my friend reminded me of my camera and I took a picture with Joey and his picture, haha. Then Darren said he wanted one too. It’s so easy being a Starkid fan. They made me feel very special.

By this point Lauren had gotten over to us, too, and once again gave me the “You DREW this?” response that I’ve been hearing so much it just makes me blush. We took some more pics and then some with Joe who’d also come out. And he’s a true Bostonian. Haha. Lovely. I cracked some jokes with all of them. Darren said something that went completely over my head. He said he'd love to be in Holland. When I asked him what the hell for (can you tell I'm really fond of my own country?) he replied that clearly, that is where the awesome people are. I regarded him oddly. Ok, so I was tired. That's when they all had to leave because they had to be in New York the next day for the last show of the tour. So we said good night. It was lovely."
